Seals/Chinaman's Hat

Depth:  8m
Experience:  Level: 1
Serviced by:  Ocean Diver    MDS

Site layout:
Most marine life directly around the base of the structure

Points of interest:
-Australian Fur Seals
-Chinaman's Hat is an old channel marker, designed so that anyone lost at sea could take refuge on it
-Falling down, therefore it is being rebuilt -Seals use it as a rest station, it is not a breeding colony
-Usually anywhere between 6-50 seals here
-Seals here are used to divers and quite tame
-Very inquisitive & playful, will probably follow you on the dive, spin around, somersault & the seals will copy you
-Structure falling down, a new one will be built next to it, then the remains pulled down

Bottom composition: Sandy
Water movement/currents: Prone to strong currents at times
Hazards: Bites, scratches -Remember they are wild animals so do not try to touch them. Watch multiple ascents and descents, can easily get carried away following seals
