Pier Dives The times we dive the Pier are dictated by tides, which move forward by about 45 minutes each day. We need to dive when
the water is slack otherwise there is too much current. The high tide slack is much longer than the low tide one, so on these
tides only we can offer double dives. This is 2 back to back dives with about 20 minutes surface interval. Why do two dives?
Well the pier is so packed with marine life, you cannot possibly see it all in one dive! By breaking your tour into 2 separate
dives, you get more time to really look at things.
Sometimes we do a pier / reef combination, which is run from the boat. This means you do one dive at Lighthouse Bay or
Bundegi, and one on the pier. Tides again dictate whether this can be offered, but is usually two or three times per week.
Due to the restrictions of currents, divers are asked to keep their bottom time to a maximum of 60 minutes, air supply
permitting.
Pier dives run daily, usually with 2 times per day. For single dives you need to allow 4 hours; for double dives 5 hours. Night
dives fall on 2 or 3 consecutive nights each week. Divers for night dives must have a minimum of an Advanced qualification (or
equivalent) or be participating in a training course under the supervision of an instructor. Torches may be hired at an extra
charge of $20 including batteries. No minimum numbers apply to the pier dive, but a maximum of 12 divers applies at all dives,
with a maximum of 6 divers per guide.
